Holy Week & Easter 2024

Banner of Holy Week & Easter 2024

Join us in person or online as we journey with Jesus towards his death and resurrection, during Holy Week and Easter 2024.

Our pattern of services for Holy Week and Easter will be as follows. You can visit our Online Resources page if you would prefer to join in online.

24 March – Palm Sunday

10:30 High Mass

A service of sung High Mass, preceded by a congregational procession of palm branches outside the church.

27 March – Holy Wednesday

19:30 Tenebrae

Tenebrae marks the growing darkness as we approach the final days of Jesus’ life. This is a beautiful service of prayer and contemplation.

28 March – Maundy Thursday

19:30 Mass of the Lord’s Last Supper

From the washing of feet to the final stripping of the altars, this is the first mass of the Paschal Triduum, tracing the final days of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection from the dead.

The Watch through the Night

The mass is followed by our own Watch when we observe the tradition of prayer as the disciples prayed with Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. Throughout the night, there are always at least 2 people in prayer at any time. Please come – pray, meditate, watch, or do what you wish in quiet adoration of the Passion of Our Lord.

29 March – Good Friday

12:00 Reflection on the Passion

This reflective service will flow into mass at 13:30.

13:30 The Liturgy of the Passion

30 March – Holy Saturday

11:00 Children’s Activity at the Easter Garden

31 March – Easter Day

05:00 Paschal Vigil Mass and Baptism

One of the most beautiful masses of the year. Join us afterwards for light breakfast, followed by our traditional singing of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus on Calton Hill with the OSP choir.

All are welcome!
(Note: the clocks go forward today!)

10:30 Festal High Mass of Easter

A Festival High Mass for Easter.

18:30 Festal Evensong & Benediction

A sung Office with readings, psalms, hymns and canticles. Followed by Benediction – meditation and blessing with the Blessed Sacrament.

Flowers for Easter

Every Easter we fill the church with lilies. If you would like to remember a loved one or give thanks for something through the gift of a lily, please consider donating to our Flowers for Easter page.
